“I want to continue expanding my personal brand. I want to have my art in important museums alongside people that I respect.”-Shevah Vahdatpour
In 2009, I came across a social platform that was on a brink of a cultural phenomenon. For the last seven years, I have been keeping close tabs on certain bloggers. Certain bloggers who have maintained their true identity and their purpose. Some of the bloggers have become high profiled and successful. While others are going in a new direction with their overall brand. Many want to conquer the fashion world while others want to conquer the art world. And that is what Shevah Vahdatpour of Shevahh.com wants to accomplish.
Being an artist today is all about an ideal. An ideal of fully embracing the creative visionary side of yourself. Some will try and blend both the creative and technical. Others, on the other hand, choose not to do that. In my recent interview with Shevah, she explains that being an artist gives her a sense of freedom. A freedom in which she is able to express herself without becoming too emotional. Shevah started her art journey when she was at a very young age. She states that she would draw little pictures for her mom. She goes on to add that being a visual person is part of her personality. Doing things like drawing or painting provides a euphoric feeling for her.
“I just naturally need to create to feel happy.”
In our discussion, she talks about why she started her blog. She stated that in starting her blog was for fashion purposes. She wanted to be able to get better at dressing herself and to give her emotions an outlet. I then asked her why has she just begun to showcase her artwork? In her response, she claims that she has always been an artist, but officially declared it has her career when she was 18. With her doing that she is now looking to gain a better sense of the art industry in a personal branding perspective. She believes that social media has made it a lot easier for people to connect with artists. She agrees that many are doing the same thing, but that is what you can expect from art.
“Nadia and I would just take each other’s pictures and it developed into me kind of being able to channel a feel or an attitude with each outfit.”
As we moved further into the conversation, I was able to get insight into how she wants to continue with fashion blogging. Her goals are to keep doing what she is currently doing, but take it to new levels. In her mind, she wants to work with brands ( upcoming and established). She goes on to say that she would love to design with her artwork in mind. I then asked her would she ever come to the DMV to work with artists, designers, and bloggers? She agreed that she would because a few of her supporters are located in this area. And that it would be great because they have been following her for years.
In moving from Florida to California, one can say that the city has gained a true gem. Someone who is both quiet, but forceful. Who sees the world in a calm light, but bright aura. An artist who wants to flourish in growth and humility. Shevah wants us as people, artists, visionaries, and creatives to never hold back. She wants us to never allow fear to dictate our lives. In her mind putting yourself and your craft first is never a problem. For her moving was the best decision to make. She understands there will be obstacles and challenges, but when you are doing what you love it cancels out.
Shevah Vahdatpour is someone who is on the brink of success. Her starting a blog seven years ago has proven to be a positive resource for her. Not to mention a powerful seed that is soon to blossom. Her artwork depicts her journey into knowing herself. And for us as her audience, we can cherish and appreciate what she is showing us.An artist life is never private, but neither public. And we they decide to be open; go with them on their journey.
